The Icynene Process

Applied as a liquid, sprayed on almost as thin as a coat of paint, Icynene expands up to 100 times its volume in a matter of seconds to fill every crack and crevice.  Icynene foam remains soft and flexible so that the integrity of the building envelope remains intact over time.  The foam acts as a complete insulation and air barrier system to minimize air leakage and seal the building envelope for the optimal air tightness. Only a trained and licensed Icynene dealer can install Icynene foam insulation.

After plumbing, electrical, and low-voltage wiring are complete and have been inspected, Icynene is installed.  It expands 100 times, permanently adhering to the surfaces of the surrounding building materials and sealing all gaps.

An Insulation For Life crew arrives on site and goes through the following procedure*:

  1. Foreman will walk the jobsite to determine most efficient installation plan

Crew will:

  1. cover windows and doors with plastic
  2. cover electric boxes
  3. staple loose wires to studs
  4. cover & protect any appliances such as water heaters or air handling units from overspray

**If customer plans to have stained concrete floors, please make us aware so that we can take extra precaution to insure that no foam gets on the floor.

  1. Remove dirt & debris from wall cavities

Sprayer will:

  1. Apply Icynene (IFL’s top 3 sprayers have over 12 years experience applying Icynene)

Crew will:

  1. scarf excess material in preparation for drywall (any foam that expands beyond wall studs)
  2. perform polyseal (apply caulk to double studs, top & bottom plate, and apply minimally expanding foam around windows and doors).
  3. clean-up – IFL will not leave empty metal drums on your site.

It takes 2-3 days to install Icynene in an average size home.

*this is the process for a typical install and jobs may vary.

Icynene is sprayed into exterior walls, on the underside of the roof deck, and on the underside of exposed floors (living space over unconditioned spaces like garages or porches).  Icynene can also be sprayed in interior walls and ceilings for sound control.  We believe so strongly in the effectiveness of the total envelope (unvented attic) system that we no longer install Icynene in walls only.

Insulation For Life bases all quotations on a nominal application of Icynene foam. There will be variation in the thickness of the installed product, which does not affect the overall performance of the building.

Icynene® insulation is a water-based formula that contains no formaldehyde, CFCs or HCFCs. The insulation has the texture and look of angel food cake and is made up of millions of tiny cells. These cells are filled with air and provide permanent control of air and airborne moisture movement. Icynene contains no materials that emit harmful gases.  After 31 days, there are no emissions of any kind from the Icynene foam making it the perfect solution for people with allergies or chemical sensitivity.

Custom Frisco Home

Custom Frisco Home. A home built with The Icynene Foam Insulation System in place, means that the house having the foam insulation will cost as much as 40-60% less to heat and cool compared to a traditionally insulated home. Try that for energy savings! The Icynene Foam Insulation System will cost more upfront but it will pay for itself very quickly. If you are financing your home you will save more than the additional cost on your mortgage. This will increase your cash flow. In addition your home will be more comfortable because your air conditioning system will have no problem maintaining 35-55% relative humidity inside the house. This will help to improve cooling costs by working less and more efficiently thus you will save more money.
